Leandro DiMonriva’s decade-long career behind the bar began in the world of Hollywood nightclubs. After a few years of pouring AMFs and Incredible Hulks, he found himself drawn into the burgeoning cocktail scene of Downtown Los Angeles. That path led him to Cole’s French Dip, where, under the tutelage of Brent Falco, he was introduced to the world of classic cocktails. From that moment on, Leandro dedicated himself to mastering the fundamentals and refining the craft.

Over the years, he’s had the privilege of learning from some of the most talented bartenders in the industry and studying with true greats of the profession. In 2017, Leandro and producing partner Marius Haugan launched The Educated Barfly YouTube channel after noticing a gap in the cocktail space: plenty of cocktail content, but very little created by working professional bartenders. Their focus became clear—tutorials rooted in technique and history, with recipes serving as the supporting act.

Since then, The Educated Barfly has grown into a community of more than 800,000 followers, with collaborations spanning brands like Sony, HBO, Luxardo, Diageo, Bardstown Distilling, Bacardi, Campari and Jack Daniel’s. Today, Leandro continues to create high-quality educational content across YouTube, Instagram, Substack and this website as well as giving educational seminars, cocktail classes and the odd pop up bar event.
